One day, the song “Edelweiss” from the movie, “The Sound of Music” had been going through my mind all day. I finally realized that the Lord was bringing this song into my mind because He had a message for me.
I researched the internet to find information about the song and the Edelweiss flower. What I found is below:
- The Edelweiss flower grows only in very high elevations (1500-3000 feet)
- It is very rare to see and hard to reach
- It has soft whitish leaves and white hairy petals in a double-star shape with yellow centers
- It is a symbol of deep devotion and love because it is hard to obtain, requiring courage
- It has medicinal properties for anti-aging, stomach relief and memory
The following are the lyrics to the song:
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me;
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever;
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever.
My Heavenly Father explained that the message of the Edelweiss flower and song depicts our relationship with God from both our side and from His.
From our side, we need to desire to climb up to the highest heights to meet with God. We must have courage and tenacity to climb upward through obstacles and great difficulties to see and be with Him. We need to desire God as a rare and priceless treasure that is hidden from the carnal, earthly view. We also need to understand that He waits for us to choose to desire Him more than anything and to take the journey upward to meet with Him. He wants to be our greatest treasure – our Edelweiss.
From God’s side, we are His greatest treasure. He longs for us to be willing to leave all behind to live (bloom and grow) upon the heights in God’s presence even though no one may see us except for God – to live only for Him and to bloom for His eyes alone. It gives God the greatest pleasure and joy when one of His children desires to come up to His heights for the sole purpose of meeting with Him in love. He wants us to choose to become His Edelweiss.
Can we be willing to love Him so much that it does not matter if we ever receive any earthly recognition for who we are or what we do? Can we love Him so much that our primary goal is to make Him happy?
The heights of God’s Kingdom is our true homeland where He has prepared a place for us. He waits for us with such longing in His heart…
