In this dream, I entered a huge modern church building. It was packed with people everywhere. People were all talking and laughing and there was a great deal of noise and activity.
A girl saw me enter the building, so she approached me wanting to take me on a tour. I followed this tour guide, walking through the crowds until we arrived at the sanctuary. It was a very large auditorium, and there was a large platform in the center of this auditorium. I saw someone was sitting on a small motorized platform operating a T.V. camera. This platform circled continuously around the outside perimeter of the auditorium. A music team was on the large platform in the center of the room. The leader of this team had a guitar tied across his back and behind his right arm. He was trying to lead the music in praising the Lord, but was unable to play the guitar or move his right arm. He was frustrated, but the rest of the music team carried on as though there was no problem and the congregation seemed to be loving it. My tour guide mentioned something about it being a joke, but it didn’t seem right to me at all.
Then, the tour guide led me out of the sanctuary and down a corridor that was crowded with people. Off of this corridor were many rooms and alcoves with groups of people in them. Each area had a sign above it for whatever specific group. There were groups for single people, single parents, married couples, youth, ladies fellowship, children, etc. They all seemed to be having a good time, but it seemed strange to me that all of this noise and activity was happening while worship was supposed to be going on.
Then, the girl who was supposed to be taking me on a tour, lost me in the crowd so I was left on my own for a few minutes. The pastor of this church noticed me standing there alone. He walked up to me and wanted to shake my hand. He was the only person besides the girl that had noticed me at all. When I took my hand out of my pocket to shake the pastor’s hand, there was a penny in my hand which the pastor saw. He said, “You’re not going to put pennies into the offering are you?” I answered that I had not planned to do so. He then quickly moved away from me. I could tell by the expression on his face that he was shocked that I was actually holding a penny in my hand. He was not impressed with me because he thought that I didn’t have much money to offer.
Just then, the tour guide found me and said, “Oh, I see you met the pastor. I thought that I had already introduced you to him a while ago. It must have been someone else.” She had not introduced me to anyone and she seemed kind of confused. In the dream, I found this whole experience very disturbing.
Interpretation:
When I asked the Lord what the dream meant, He told me that this dream represents the state of much of the ‘Western’ Church. Though it looks like a successful, prosperous, thriving Church, their focus is on what they think they need and want. To the Lord, their worship is a ‘joke’ because it is mostly focused on what God can do for them. Everything they do is about them – their needs, their desires, their pleasure, and their glory. Jesus told me that this church has everything in it that man wants, but there is no room for Him. He also told me that this is the kind of place He wants to spit out of His mouth. And as He said this, I sensed that He was both angry and very hurt.
