In this dream, a man and his wife were on a journey, travelling by train. Along the way, the train made a stop for a few hours near a small town. The couple didn’t want to just sit and wait on the train. They wanted something to do, so they decided to get off the train and do a little sight-seeing.
The couple stepped off the train and walked toward the town. It was a very attractive town. All the buildings were brightly colored. There were lovely gardens everywhere. They were so enchanted with it, that they walked quite a distance away from the train until they reached a large park.
The park consisted of grassy lawns and many tall trees, with a lake in the center. The lake was so tightly surrounded by trees that it was fairly dark in that area. The man and woman decided to take a stroll on a
path that went around the edge of the lake. As they were walking along, the trees became thicker, making the path that they were walking on quite narrow. Suddenly, the man’s foot slipped off the edge of the path touching the surface of the water. When his foot touched the water, flames shot up his leg. His wife quickly pulled him back and saw that his pant leg was singed, but he was not injured. They then looked more closely at the lake and noticed that the water looked very dark. You could not see down into it at all.
The couple now realized that something was not good about this place. They also suddenly realized that a lot of time had gone by and they needed to get back to the train station to resume their journey, so they hurried out of the park and back to the train.
Interpretation:
The train journey depicts our journey through life as a Christian.
The train stopping for a few hours represents times when it seems like all is at a standstill in our Christian walk. In these times, it can be easy to become distracted and get sidetracked with things of the world. However, these ‘still’ times are important, God-ordained periods of stillness in which God is calling us to spend more time with Him. These times are a vitally important part of our journey, specifically designed so that we can develop a closer relationship with God.
In Psalm 46:10 it says, “…be still and know that I am God.”
The small, pretty town represents the attraction of the world. We must not allow ourselves to become attracted to the pleasures of the world and distracted by them, or anything else, in which the Lord has not asked us to be involved. Our primary goal and focus should always be knowing and loving God more. If we become distracted, we will lose our primary focus and then get sidetracked, losing our way. We are then in danger of being led further away from God until we reach the very lake of fire.
Psalm 119:35-37 says, “Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”
1 John 2:15-17 says, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
